3. What personal information we collect
Through this website we may collect the following personal information:
- Contact and enquiry details you provide via our contact form or when you message us — your first and last name, email address, telephone number, the type of enquiry (e.g. individual therapy, assessments), and the content of your message.
- Communications you send us by email, telephone or WhatsApp.
- Technical information automatically collected by our web server or cookies, such as your IP address, browser type, device information and pages visited (see section 8).
4. Health information and clinical records
Information about your health is special personal information under POPIA and is treated with the highest level of confidentiality. Please do not share detailed clinical, medical or sensitive personal information through the website contact form or WhatsApp. Any clinical records created in the course of professional psychological services are kept separately and are governed by the confidentiality and record-keeping requirements of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and applicable law, not by this website policy.
5. Why we process your information (purpose & lawful basis)
We process your personal information in order to:
- respond to your enquiries and schedule or manage appointments;
- provide you with information about our services that you have requested;
- maintain records of our communication with you;
- comply with our legal, professional and ethical obligations; and
- operate, secure and improve our website.
We rely on one or more of the following lawful bases under POPIA: your consent; the fact that processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into, or to perform, a service; our compliance with a legal obligation; or our legitimate interests in operating the Practice, balanced against your rights.
6. Enquiries sent via WhatsApp
When you use the “Send Message” button or WhatsApp contact option, the details you enter are used to open a message to us in WhatsApp. Any information you then send is transmitted through WhatsApp and is also subject to WhatsApp’s (Meta’s) own privacy terms. Please avoid including sensitive health information in these messages.
7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it only where necessary with:
- service providers who help us operate the Practice and website (for example our website host and email provider), who are required to protect your information;
- medical aid schemes or other parties where you have authorised us to do so; and
- authorities or regulators where we are required or permitted by law.
8. Cookies and website analytics
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the site to function and, where enabled, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect how the website works.
9. Security safeguards
We take reasonable, appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, damage, and unauthorised or unlawful access, as required by section 19 of POPIA. Our website is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above, or for as long as required by law, professional obligations or legitimate business needs, after which it is securely deleted or de-identified.
11. Cross-border transfers
Some of our service providers (for example messaging or hosting providers) may process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection as required by POPIA.
12. Your rights under POPIA
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- be told what personal information we hold about you and to request access to it;
- request that we correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date or unlawfully obtained;
- object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your personal information;
- withdraw any consent you have given (this will not affect processing that already took place); and
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@lstanton.co.za.
13. How to lodge a complaint
If you believe we have not handled your personal information lawfully, please contact our Information Officer first so we can try to resolve the matter. You also have the right to complain to the regulator:

14. Children’s information
Where we provide services to a child (a person under 18), we process the child’s personal information with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with POPIA and our professional obligations.
